What is Forestry Mulching?
Forestry mulching is a land clearing method that uses a single machine to cut, grind, and clear vegetation growth - trees, brush and stumps, and is ground into mulch. The mulch is spread evenly over the mulched area to prevent erosion and replenish the topsoil base. The CAT 299D3 uses a rotary drum equipped with a steel chipper "teeth" to remove and shred trees, brush and heavy vegetation. Forestry mulching is used for land clearing, right of way clearing and maintenance, overgrown and heavy brush management, and invasive species control. Forestry mulching is an excellent process to clear tracts of land and to thin property. 3B Landwork can make your property more aesthetically appealing in a very short time period.
Why choose forestry mulching?
Forestry Mulching can be done with a single machine comprised of a CAT D229D3 fitted with a Loftness G4 Mulching Attachment. This mulching head processes trees, up to 8 in diameter, and other brush for effective land clearing results.
Forestry mulching leaves no brush or burn piles and eliminates the damage caused by heavy equipment to the retained trees. Damage to “keeper” trees is greatly reduced because forestry mulching protects the vital topsoil layer and delicate “feeder” roots. The landowner is left with mulch, which naturally decomposes into rich topsoil. Mulching is faster and cheaper than traditional land clearing methods. The mulched material can be left on the ground and will act as an erosion barrier while returning nutrients back into the soil through decomposition. Over time, grass will naturally grow through the mulch and can be maintained with mowing.
By processing trees and other vegetation where they stand, mulching machines eliminate many of the steps involved in land clearing. All of the necessary machinery and equipment traditionally used for cutting, felling, hauling and site cleanup are replaced with a single machine. This eliminates the need for multiple pieces of heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, tree shears, woodchippers, grinders, and hauling equipment.
How long does it take and what is required?
Forestry mulching is the fastest, least expensive way to clear trees under 8” in diameter, heavy brush and vegetation. Depending on terrain, as well as, tree and brush density, a forestry mulcher can clear one to two acres in a single day. It is possible to transform overgrown property in a single day. 3B Landwork provides an estimate outlining the scope of work, estimated hours, and hourly rate.
